Coaches reduced, public troubled

It is in the larger interest of public that I make this complaint. The coaches of Karur-Tiruchi passenger train have been reduced from eight to six, making it very difficult for the students and the passengers. All coaches are crowded. When I tried to contact Salem DRM’s office number 0427-2449957, the answer was “the number is not in use”. Please increase the coaches at the earliest.

Cell tower needed

Cell phone-users of Kambarasampettai village near Tiruchi are unable to use their mobile phones due to the non-availability of a cellphone tower nearby. As the number of cell phone users is increasing day by day in rural areas, I request BSNL to enable better access to the network.

It took eight days to revive phones

Our telephone numbers 0431-2440196 and 2441469 remained out of service for about eight days recently. We have been dialling the following BSNL numbers (2101002 / 2441200 / 2415330 / 2442700 / 2462250 / 2442700) repeatedly to set our telephones right, but the response came only after eight days. This only shows that the BSNL department is not concerned.

Stop all unwanted mobile text messages

In mobile phones, a lot of telemarketing SMS messages are received frequently which causes a lot of inconvenience to the users. The BSNL also charges for incoming messages in post-paid connections. The BSNL services are far from satisfactory.

Open public library

A public library constructed in Alathur panchayat about 18 months back at an expenditure of Rs.2.63 lakh, is lying closed.

I request the authorities to take steps for opening the library at the earliest.

Why ask religion?

I was shocked to see a column ‘religion and community’ in the form of State Bank of India for opening the new account. It is hard to understand the logic of asking such particulars in a purely commercial establishment.

Water woes

The residents of colonies sandwiched between Koraiyar and Kollangulam are the most disadvantaged lot during monsoon. Either water overflowing from the pond fills low-lying areas or flooded Koraiyar inundates. Is there a permanent solution? A channel extending up to the Cauvery or the Kudamurutti or at least upto Uyyakondan canal could be thought of. The old canals could be cleared of encroachments so that flood water drains freely. These colonies are just 3 km away from Central Bus Stand and Railway Junction.

Neglected place

Karumandapam was one of the areas in Tiruchi which was severely affected by the recent floods. There was water logging around most houses. It is one of the neglected places in Tiruchi. There is no proper drainage for sewage or rain water. Water is stagnant for months together in vacant plots where buffaloes relax. Flood relief of Rs. 1,000 should be sanctioned to all houses in Karumandapam.

Madurai school’s toilets stinking

On November 30, I accompanied my son for Staff Selection Commission examination at Sourashtra Higher Secondary School in Madurai. Over 250 boys and girls from Delta districts and their parents had come there that day. The maintenance of toilets left a lot to be desired. They were stinking and without water. Imagine the plight of the thousands of students studying in the school.

Payment problem in bank

After the implementation of core banking, due to poor connectivity or inherent software shortcomings, the Canara Bank cashier in Srirangam struggles to disperse cash. Sometimes up to 20 token holders wait in vain in the line.

The bank management should go in for better software to alleviate the problems of bank staff and customers. India provides the best software to banking system across the world, but only to put the customers back home to suffer.

T.M. Renganathan,

Srirangam.
