Post Office in bad state - Reader's mail

The Paramakudi Head Post Office is functioning in a rented building with poor amenities. There is no parking lot. Will the authorities concerned construct a building for the post office with all facilities.

Side middle berth

Recently, while travelling from Madurai to Bangalore in the Tuticorin–Mysore Express I was e “re-allotted” a side middle berth, an innovation of the Southern Railway to increase income. I had great difficulty in accommodating myself in the side middle berth. The side upper berth has a very low roof and the lower one a painful one. The middle is uneven and tests your back. Under this innovative move, the passengers could neither sit not stretch comfortably though they pay the same charges. The Railway should go in for a side middle berth only after introducing specially designed coaches.

Roadside mutton stalls

There is a rapid increase in the number of roadside mutton stalls in Ramanathapuram town. They have virtually become roadside slaughter houses where are no health inspectors visit to certify the meat. This civic lapse is mainly due to the delinquent and recalcitrant attitude of the people at the helm of affairs. Hence it is requested that the Municipality should see that the cattle are brought to the municipal slaughterhouse and duly certified by the health inspectors before being butchered. Those who are involved in illegal butchering should also be taken into task.

G. Nagasamy,

Ramanathapuram.

Highways maintenance

The cycle of seasons is a known fact and the Government cannot get an excuse for the poor condition of national highways during monsoon period. The stretch of NH 210 from Ramanathapuram to Tiruchirapalli is in a bad shape between Puliyal and Devakottai with a lot of potholes and the highways between Thanjavur and Nagapattinam is in a worst condition at several places. Mere widening or straightening of roads and highways alone is not sufficient, but proper and continued maintenance is essential. The government should constitute a separate cell in the Highways Department to ensure the maintenance of roads are up to date

Rental housing quarters

About 152 State Government officers are located in Paramakudi town. It is pitiable to note that a considerable section of government employees working here, have had to reside outside Paramakudi due to non-availability of houses on rent. Hence I request the Tamil Nadu Housing Board to construct “Rental Housing Quarters” at Paramakudi exclusively for State Government employees without further delay.

Solution to congestion

Due to want of space, in Sivakasi, most of the colleges, polytechnics, higher secondary schools run by Sivakasi industrialists are situated beyond Thirutangal. The vehicular traffic is increasing day by day in front of the Kamarajar Statue. Students, traders, factory staff of various units suffer in the morning hours. The only solution to the prevailing congestion is to introduce one-way traffic system at least in the morning (8 a.m. to 10 a.m.). Vehicles bound for Sivakasi can be diverted through Aramanathupatti Road, railway crossing, KAKA Foundry, Sivakasi Main Road. I request the Government officials look into this matter as early as possible.

S.N.M.T. Nagarajan

Sivakasi.
