Palani temple to have second rope car system

Staff Reporter

It will have fixed six-seat cabins to transport more pilgrims

PALANI: The second rope car system will have fixed six-seat cabins to transport more pilgrims in a safe manner. Fixed grip jig-back system will be adopted in the new facility. Instead of rotational movement, cluster of cabins will move up and down, according to S.V. Balasubramaniam, Chairman, Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple Board of Trustees.

The chairman on Monday said the board has massive development plans to enhance facilities for the convenience of pilgrims. Top priority would be given for safety of pilgrims.

With a sharp increase in the demand for panchaamritham prepared by the temple administration, the second automatic panchaamritham unit would be set up shortly. Already, one unit that has a capacity to mix 145 kg of fruits with 288 kg of sugar and 25 kg of dates in 10 minutes was functioning near the winch station.

The kumbabhishekam to Sri Mariamman Temple and Peria Avudaiyar Temple in the town would be performed shortly. The pending renovation work would be expedited immediately, he added.

Briefing expansion activities, the chairman said the hair-offering centre near Thiru Avinankudi temple would be air-conditioned. More mobile toilet vehicles would be purchased to utilise them during festival days. The temple administration also plans to operate its own ambulance van to help pilgrims in case of any emergency. Steps would also be taken to fill the existing vacancies in the administration, he added.

After an accident in August 26, 2007, the existing rope car system has eight fixed compartments – that would move up and down in clusters. In the original system, it had 20 cabins with detachable type which moved two metres in two seconds.
