Nagercoil: The Government has allotted Rs.2.19 crores to carry out maintenance work in the group houses belonging to Adi Dravidars in Thovalai, Rajakkamangalam, Kurunthancode and Thuckalay unions in the current year, said Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare A. Tamilarasi. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, the Minister said that the Government has also allotted Rs.44.48 lakh to carry out maintenance work in various Adi Dravidar welfare schools in Kalingarajapuram, Pechipparai and Vazayathuvayal areas. The pass percentage in Adi Dravidar welfare schools has increased and it was evident that the students studying in 10th standard have recorded a pass percentage of 78 per cent from 70 per cent and from 54 per cent to 70 percent in the schools, where the students studying in 12th standard in the State. Later the Minister distributed various welfare assistants to the tune of Rs.1.25 lakhs to the beneficiaries under THADCO and distributed identity cards to scavengers. Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan, Collector Rajendra Kumar and other officials participated.
