NEW DELHI: Yuki Bhambri became the first Indian to win the prestigious Orange Bowl ITF junior tennis tournament, as he beat Jarmere Jenkins of the US 6-1, 6-3 in the final at the Crandon Park Tennis Center, Key Biscayne, on Sunday. A semifinalist at the Australian Open, Bhambri joined the likes of Marcos Baghdatis (2003), Andy Roddick (1999), Roger Federer (1998), Nicolas Massu (1997), Marc Rosset (1988), Jim Courier (1987), Guy Forget (1982), Ivan Lendl (1977), John McEnroe (1976), Bjorn Borg (1972) and Tony Roche (1962) as champion at Orange Bowl, an event that has been held since 1947. It could have been a double delight for Bhambri, partnering Chase Buchanan, but for a 7-6(7), 6-2 loss in the doubles final to the seventh-seeded Devin Britton and Jarmere Jenkins.
