“Revive Banking Service Recruitment Board”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Members of the Indian Bank Employees’ Union on Sunday passed resolutions that demanded recruitment of clerks, sub-staff promotion and filling of regular vacancies with sub-staff and sweepers working on a casual basis.

At the 37th conference, the members also demanded that the Centre revive the Banking Service Recruitment Board, take steps to bring out the black money allegedly parked by Indians in Swiss banks and curb the circulation of fake currencies.

The conference unanimously adopted resolutions on global warming, world peace, price rise, women empowerment, banking industry, customer service, cooperative banks, regional rural banks and tiny deposit scheme, and condemned discrimination against retail depositors and the government’s anti-people and anti-worker policies.

All India Bank Employees Association general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam said the conference decided to involve the rank and file in the struggle for appointment on compassionate grounds, an early settlement of wage revision and one more option for pension. Responding to the demands, Indian Bank chairman and managing director M.S. Sundara Rajan said labour-related issues would be resolved in three-six months.

“The management has already initiated the process of promoting its employees based on their performance. Besides, in the next 7-10 days, we will provide computer training to 400 clerical and sub-staffs in core banking solutions, so that they are readily employable,” he said.
