Speaking to The Hindu at Tirupuvanavasal after inaugurating the marine police stations at Tirupuvanavasal and Manamelkudi in Pudukottai district and Sethupavachathram in Thanjavur district, S. Amsavalli, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Coastal Security Group, Pattukottai, said steps were being taken to select members for the Friends of Police units for these stations. Outpost stationsMs. Amsavalli said each station, constructed on an outlay of Rs.25 lakh, would be manned by an Inspector, a Sub-Inspector, three head constables and five constables each from the local wing and the Tamil Nadu Police Battalion. Arrangements had been made to ensure the safety and security of fishermen through strict vigil in coastal villages. Two outpost police stations would come up at Kottaipattinam and Muthukuda in Pudukottai district. Identity cardsAddressing the fishermen of R. Pudupattinam, she appealed to them to have the identity cards issued by the Fisheries Department and the licences for their boats. She advised them to paint their boats in orange fluorescent, a colour meant for boats originating from the central region of Tamil Nadu.
