One held for chain snatching

CHENGAM: The Chengam police in Tiruvannamalai district arrested a person for relieving a woman of her gold chain while she was standing outside the Chengam Bus Stand here, on Sunday night.

Police said that Rajangam, and his wife Veena, had come from Tiruvannamalai to Chengam to attend a marriage function on Sunday. After attending the marriage function they were standing outside the Chengam bus stand to board a bus to Tiruvannamalai. During that time, one of the persons quickly relieved Veena of her gold chain worth Rs. 50,000. While the culprit made a bid to flee from the spot, her relatives caught him. The culprit who had been identified as Karthikeyan, was remanded to police custody.

The culprit told the police that he had finished the first year in the Teacher Training course. He had no money to pursue his second year of studies and hence made this attempt.
