CHENNAI: Indian Bank eked out a 2-1 win over Chennai Customs in a St. Joseph’s-Chennai Football Association senior division league match at the SDAT-Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. Indian Bank opened its account through a freak goal. Bengkok Nameirakpam’s innocuous cross from the left in the 13th minute found the goalkeeper Anil Kumar, who tried to clear the ball put it in. Customs was the innovator in the first half. Williams, Abey Owolesho and Ramesh through sheer speed and precise passing kept the bankmen on tenterhooks. Minutes after Abey messed up a beautiful pass from Williams, Customs equalised through Ramesh (21st), who caught the eye with his ball sense and quickness. Abey’s neat pass just outside the box saw Ramesh pushing one through the legs of goalkeeper Nidhin Lala. Few minutes to go for half-time, Fredy struck to give his team, what turned out to be its first win in two matches. Parthiban’s curving free kick saw found Fredy, who made no mistake. Earlier in a first division contest, Perambur Blues and Central Excise were involved in a goalless draw. — Principal Correspondent
