Mumbai: The one-month transfer window for the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s eight franchises to buy and sell players, scheduled to start on Monday, has been put off by a week. The window has been rescheduled from December 22 to January 22, 2009. It has been done because the franchises wanted some more time to do their homework, said IPL’s Tournament Director, Dhiraj Malhotra. Malhotra rubbished suggestions that it was done because of the delays in the IPL management in responding to queries from the franchises. Basically, it was done to give more time to the franchise owners to make their plans, he said. Meanwhile, the IPL’s Governing Council, headed by its Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi, will hold a two-day meeting here from Monday to meet the representatives of the franchises about the regulations for the second season set to commence in April 2009. — PTI
