Shyam Ranganathan
KARAIKAL: While life in Karaikal district is limping back to normality after the heavy rains and subsequent flooding of rivers and canals, the marks of the damage are still visible, said K. Skandan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, here on Sunday.
Leading a six-member Central team to the affected areas, Mr. Skandan toured the district after visiting the areas in Puducherry. They were briefed by Collector-in-charge L. Muhammad Mansur and other officials.
At Andurpet Thenpathy, which was completely submerged and cut off by the rains, the residents showed the team places where the houses had completely caved in.
They also told Mr. Skandan that they were staying in the community centre with great discomfort. Mr. Skandan was accompanied by Deenanath, Deputy Director, Department of Expenditure, P. Manoj Kumar, Director, Ministry of Rural Development, Muralidharan, Senior Advisor, Planning Commission, Manoharan, Director, Tobacco Board, and Jayachandran, Superintending Engineer, Department of Road Transport and Highways.
