Arrested on cheating charge

CHENNAI: Central Crime Branch of the Suburban Police Commissionerate on Saturday arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of cheating several persons after promising them lucrative jobs in the hotel industry abroad.

Police said Karthikeyan of Jayalalitha Nagar, Ennore, was employed in a job consultancy firm in Nerkundram owned by one Getham Jay of Kerala. The duo had collected Rs.1 lakh each from many men of Kancheepuram after promising them placements as chefs in Singapore. The candidates were sent to Singapore on fake visas and work permits as a result of which they were arrested at the airport there and deported to India.

Following a compliant lodged at the Commissionerate by five victims, a CCB (Job Fraud) team apprehended Karthikeyan at the Koyambedu bus terminus on Saturday night. He was later sent to the Puzhal Prison. The police are on the lookout for Getham Jay.
