KOLKATA: Baroda was all set to move into the final of the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy (under-22) here on Sunday. After snatching a 90-run lead, Baroda reduced Punjab to 145 for seven on the third day of the four-day semifinal at the JU Salt Lake ground. Bengal, after conceding a 147-run lead, hit back to restrict Mumbai to 106 for six, thanks to some inspired pace bowling by Nilkantha Das. Mumbai was 253 runs ahead with four second innings wickets in hand at the Eden Gardens. Resuming at 197 for three, Baroda’s Mohamud Baloch moved from 92 to 150 (328b, 22x4, 1x6). His skipper Ketan Panchal scored 89 (129b, 14x4, 1x6). Left-arm pacer Bharat Malhotra provided the breakthrough with two wickets for nine runs. From 105 for three, Bengal was dismissed for 206, 17 minutes after lunch. Only Azad Ansari (46 n.o.) and No. 5 Shreevats Goswami (42) defied the Mumbai attack in which right-arm pacer Murtaza Hussain stood out with a haul of four for 61. The Bengal pace attack then got into action to check Mumbai’s second innings to 106 for six. The scores: Mumbai 353 and 106 for six in 43 overs (Anup Revandkar 33, Shoaib Sheikh 36, Nilkantha Das three for 34) vs Bengal 206 in 81.1 overs (Azad Ansari 46 n.o., Shreevats Goswami 42, Murtaza Hussain four for 61, Iqbal Abdullah three for 42). Punjab 249 and 145 for seven in 29.4 overs (Sarul Kanwar 36, Hitesh Anand 38, Sumeet Sharma 32, Ikram Zampawala three for 36) vs Baroda 339 for nine decl. in 121.3 overs (Mohamud Baloch 150, Ketan Panchal 89).
