Vijay Anand bags title

KOCHI: Vijay Anand of Chennai’s St. Joseph’s Engineering College defeated collegemate Vijay Aloysius to win the men’s singles title in the fourth Peak Telecom Trophy South India inter-Collegiate badminton tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here.

The Kerala State Sports Council President, T.P. Dasan, was the chief guest at the closing function and Elizaba Eipe gave away the prizes.

The results:

Men’s singles final: Vijay Anand (St. Joseph’s EC, Chennai) bt Vijay Aloysius (St. Joseph’s EC, Chennai) 21-7, 22-20. Semifinals: Vijay Aloysius bt Dileep T. Jacob (SHC, Thevara) 21-19, 21-19; Vijay Ananad bt Vinod Sankar (Sacred Heart, Thevara) 21-9, 9-21, 21-14.

Men’s doubles final: Vijay Aloysius & Vijay Anand bt Vinod Sankar & Dileep T. Jacob (Sacred Heart) 21-10, 21-16.

Old engineering college students double final: John of Matha & Jayaprakash bt George Thomas & Aji Mathew 21-15, 20-22, 21-13.
