“Congress ensured free and fair polls in J&K”

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader and the former Union Minister, Makhan Lal Fotedar, on Sunday said the Congress had kept its promise of holding free and fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Fotedar said this had helped people repose their faith in democracy.

“The large number of men, women and youth making a beeline for polling stations stands testimony to that,” he said adding that it was possible only after the United Progressive Alliance government led by Manmohan Singh took effective steps to ensure free and transparent elections in the State.
