Natl. kayaking from today

BANGALORE: About 80 contestants from 35 States and Services will participate in the 19th National kayaking and canoeing championship which gets underway at the Ulsoor Lake, here on Monday.

Competitions will be held in senior men, senior women, junior boys, junior girls, sub-junior boys and sub-junior girls’ sections, B.S. Ahuluwalia, Secretary General, Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, said that there has been growing interest in the sport across the country and though it is dominated by Services.

“More civilians are coming forward to take it up and many clubs have sprung in the country to promote the event,” he added.

The championship starts with a formal inauguration and practice sessions on Monday and events will get underway from Tuesday and the finals are scheduled for December 19. — Special Correspondent
