Security beefed up at Chepauk

CHENNAI: The City police have deployed over 3,000 personnel, including 300 commandos, as part of a ‘6-pack’ security cordon at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, the venue of the first India-England cricket Test match here.

Additional security measures include a team of sharpshooters, anti-sabotage check teams, bomb detection and disposal squads, horse-mounted police, and several frisking teams.

Sniffer dogs

Sniffer dogs have been deployed for detection of explosives.

Security personnel are being assisted in their job by four dome cameras with 360 degree coverage of the stadium.

Four fire tenders and six ambulances with medical personnel have also been provided for the stadium.

Adequate security provisions have been made at the team hotel.

Rishi, Prem move up

Rishi and Prem Prakash advanced to the semifinals of the The Hindu/ Sportstar KTC tennis tournament, here on Saturday, defeating Sridhar and Shanmugam 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

The results:

Chess tournament

Solar Chess Club will conduct an Open tournament from January 24 to 26, 2009, at the Padma Seshadri School (K.K. Nagar) in under-8, 10, 12, 14 and 18 categories for boys and girls.
