THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Piqued by the manner in which he was sidelined in matters relating to the selection of the State junior teams, the joint secretary of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), P.V. Sirajuddin has resigned from his post. Confirming that he has tendered his resignation, Mr. Sirajuddin told The Hindu on Saturday that he had faxed his letter to be relieved from the post of joint secretary to the KCA office late on Friday night, talked to the KCA president, T.R.Balakrishnan, over phone and text messaged the rest of the KCA office-bearers informing them about his decision to quit. Mr. Sirajuddin, however, said he would continue to hold the post of secretary of the Kannur District Cricket Association and in that capacity would be attending the KCA Central Council meeting to be held on December 28. Unhappy“I shall explain to the council the reasons which led to my resignation and then come out into the open. I have not been happy with the way in which matters have been managed within the KCA for sometime now. I had in fact been held back from resigning only because I wanted to complete the work on the Conor Vayal stadium project. Otherwise, the KCA top brass would have used my resignation as a ruse to stop work on the project,” he said. Though Mr. Sirajuddin stopped himself from accusing either the KCA president or the KCA secretary, T.C. Mathew, he said the decision to quit was personal and taken after a lot of thought. “I stand only for cricket and I don’t have any ill will against anybody,” he said. However, it is learnt that the KCA joint secretary has been miffed for sometime now as he was never consulted in matters relating to selection of the junior State teams, though he was constitutionally required to be convenor of the KCA junior selection committee. PressureApparently, Mr. Sirajuddin was also under a lot of pressure after a group of players registered with the KDCA broke out in rebellion and staged a hunger strike before the KCA complex here on Thursday under the banner of the Thalassery Players’ Forum. While the resignation of Mr. Sirajuddin sent shock-waves across the cricket spectrum in the State, neither the KCA president nor secretary was available for comment despite persistent efforts right through Saturday.
