Indian challenge ends

New Delhi: India’s challenge in the ITTF World Junior table tennis championship ended with Neha Aggarwal and Soumi Mondal bowing out from the girls’ singles category in Madrid on Friday.

Neha was no match for Japan’s Ayuka Tanioka, who spanked her 4-0 in the pre-quarterfinals. Earlier, Neha had stunned Manca Fajmut of Slovenia 4-2 in the round of 64.

Soumi, who qualified for the main draw by winning all the three matches, went down to Romania’s Camelia Postoaca 4-1 in the second round. The Indians’ doubles campaign had already ended after they went down to Aneta Kucerova and Hana Matelova. — PTI
