New Delhi: India’s challenge in the ITTF World Junior table tennis championship ended with both Olympian Neha Aggarwal and Soumi Mondal bowing out from the girls’ singles category in Madrid on Friday.
Nehawas no match for her Japanese opponent, world No. 331 Ayuka Tanioka, who spanked her 4-0 in the pre-quarterfinals. Earlier, the Delhi girl stunned Manca Fajmut of Slovenia 4-2 in the round of 64.
Soumi, who qualified for the main draw by winning all the three matches, went down to Romania’s Camelia Postoaca 4-1 in the second round. The Indian duo’s journey in the girls’ doubles had already ended after they went down to Czech pair Aneta Kucerova and Hana Matelova 2-3. — PTI
