Andhra Pradesh posts win

HYDERABAD: Defending champion Andhra Pradesh scored a 25-5, 25-5, 25-7 win over Delhi in the Group ‘A’ match of the All-India Postal volleyball tournament at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Friday.

In another match, Karnataka got the better of Rajasthan 25-11, 25-5, 25-7 in Group B.

Other results: Gujarat bt Maharashtra 25-7, 25-9, 25-11; UP bt Uttarakhand 25-14, 25-10, 25-11.

Easy for EME

EME Centre recorded a 3-0 win over Hyderabad Sporting in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at the Gymkhana Grounds here.

Andrews put the Armymen ahead in the 17th minute with a fine solo effort. Within 12 minutes, EME made it 2-0 when Rajesh Mathews was spot on with a long-ranger. In the second session, Charles scored the third goal to complete the tally for the winner.

The second match between State Bank of Hyderabad and BDL had to be stopped due to bad light with the Bankmen leading 1-0, thanks to a fine effort from Vimal. However, the BDL players refused to leave the ground before the organisers intervened to say that the technical committee of the event will decide the fate of the match on Saturday and only then the result of the game will be announced.

State U-7 chess

Andhra Pradesh Chess Association is organising a State under-7 championship for boys and girls at Tanuku (West Godavari District) on December 13 and 14. The top two players in the boys and girls segments will represent the State in the Nationals.

Anwar-ul-Uloom wins

Anwar-ul-Uloom College won the inter-college judo championship at the OU Indoor Stadium here.

The results: 56 kg: T. Ramesh (Noble College) bt A. Sravan Kumar (Nruptunga College). 60 kg: Inayathullah Khan (S. D. Signodia) bt Quasim Bin Mehamood (Nizam College). 66 kg: Mustafa Khalid (Anwar-ul-Uloom) bt Mahesh Yadav (Vijaynagar College). 73 kg: A. Raju (A.V. College) bt Durga Singh Thakur (S.D. Signodia). 81 kg: Md. Shamshuddin (Anwar-ul-Uloom) bt Ravi Kumar (PRR Law College). 90 kg: Rajesh Singh (Badruka) bt Vinay Raj Singh (Nrutputanga College). 100 kg open: D.Vinay Kumar (M.V. S. R Engg College) bt Rupesh ( Bhavan’s College).

Team championship: 1. Anwar-ul-Uloom 17 points, 2. Bhavan’s College 10 points, 3. Nruptunga College 9 points.

Tennis tournament

Pioneer Tennis Academy, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, will conduct an Open tournament for boys and girls aged between eight and 14 years in singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories from December 22 to 31. Entries close on December 18. For details, call 94412 63681 or 24738781.

Swimming selection trials

The District Swimming Association will conduct trials to select the district boys and girls teams for the 29th sub-junior and junior inter-district winter aquatics championships, at the Aqua Sports Complex, Beach Road, Visakhapatnam, from 8.30 a.m. on December 14.
