THALASSERY: Wickets tumbled as if there was no tomorrow on the opening day of the State under-14 inter-zonal cricket championship, here on Friday. Host North, which chose to bat, was bowled by South for 74. South, however, couldn’t do much better, as it could make only 91 in reply as stumps were drawn on the first day. The scores: North 74 (Amal S. Kumar four for 10, Shiraz Khan three for four) vs. South 91(C.K. Dhruv Krishnan five for 15, Jitendra Jadhav three for 16). Cordiant posts winCordiant Sports Foundation (Tripunithura) defeated Muthoot Ernakulam CC by five wickets in the Santosh Menon Memorial cricket tournament at Thrissur on Friday. The scores: Muthoot ECC 209 for eight in 40 overs (Saleesh Chandran 51) lost to Cordiant Sports Foundation 211 for five in 34.5 overs (Madhan Mohan 77 n.o.). Govt. College triumphsGovernment Women’s College (Thiruvananthapuram) won the Kerala University inter-Collegiate women’s cricket tournament. In the final, Women’s College crushed LNCPE (Kariyavattom) by 126 runs. All Saints College (Thiruvananthapuram) defeated DB College (Shasthamcotta) to finish third.
