Purse seine, ring seine nets banned

CHENNAI: Based on the recommendations of the Central government, the State government has banned the use of purse seine net and miniature version of the net known as ring seine for fishing as they will cause damage to biological processes of fish population.

Not only the use of nets but also purchasing fish caught by using these banned nets is an offence.

Directive to Collectors

Collectors of all coastal districts have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the ban and prevent the use of these nets in order to conserve the ecology as well as the pelagic resources, according to an official press release.
