NEW DELHI: Accusing the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) of adopting delaying tactics by seeking adjournment of the proceedings, former India captain Kapil Dev on Friday pleaded with the Delhi High Court to immediately order release of the post retirement benefits to the former cricketers who have joined Indian Cricket League (ICL). Kapil made this accusation against the Board in the Court of Joint Registrar Pawan Kumar Jain of the Court. Kapil had appeared before the Registrar for his cross-examination by the Board. But it was adjourned to January 15 on a request by the Board submitting that it was not able to prepare itself for the proceeding. Kapil further stated that the Board had taken punitive actions against the former cricketers by withholding their pensions and other post-retirement benefits because they had joined the ICL. He said the Board did not get time to prepare itself for his cross-examination as it was more concerned about the on-going Test series than about the former cricketers of the country who had served the nation well. — Principal Correspondent
