Initial stage: Collector V.K. Shanmugam (right) releasing the voters’ list of Water Users Associations in Krishnagiri on Friday. — KRISHNAGIRI: Collector V.K. Shanmugam released the voters’ list of water users associations in the 20 irrigation areas in Hosur and Krishnagiri Block here on Friday. He also released the schedule for the election to the associations. According to the schedule, the elections will be held on December 27 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The results will be announced at 4 p.m. on the same day. Mr. Shanmugam told reporters that the elections are conducted for the first time to these associations. Each association will have a president and territorial committee members according to its area of irrigation. Each voter will cast two votes to elect the president and one vote to elect the territorial constituency member. He said that Kelavarapalli Dam left canal irrigation area will have six presidents. Totally 90 territorial constituency members would be elected in 20 associations. The elections are held in the irrigation area from Kelavarapalli Dam to Krishnagiri Reservoir Project dam on apolitical basis and symbols would be allotted to the candidates, Mr. Shanmugam said. The elections for the water users associations in Hosur sub-division are: Kodiyalam Dam Irrigation Association; Kelevarapalli Dam Left Canal Irrigation Association 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; Thorappalli, Subagiri and Aliyalam Irrigation Association, Boothinatham, Aiyarnapalli, Kadavarahalli, Ulagam, Laxmigoundan irrigation associations. Krishnagiri sub-division: Ennekalpudur, Koolium, Kengeleri, Ottahalli, Alapatti lake and Velakala Alli lake; Sokkadi lake and Thudukana Alli lake irrigation associations. According to the schedule, filing of nomination begins on December 22 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., the scrutiny would be held on December 12 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., withdrawal of nominations on the same day between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The final list of candidates and symbols would be released on the same day at 4 p.m.
