Policeman dies

Tiruvannamalai: A policeman from Tiruvallur, who was part of the security personnel deployed for Karthigai Deepam festival, died on Friday.

According to sources, Chandran (55), head constable in Tiruttani Crime Branch, was among 500 policemen from Tiruvallur deployed along the ‘girivalam’ path from Tuesday.

On Friday, the policemen from neighbouring districts started to leave the town. Chandran boarded a special bus to Tiruvallur. Suddenly, he complained of chest pain and collapsed. He was taken to Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
