Conspiracy against Ministers: CPI(M)

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State secretariat of the CPI(M) has alleged a ‘planned conspiracy’ to frame Ministers in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Cabinet and their families in connection with the Kiliroor sex scandal case.

In a statement here on Friday, the CPI(M) State secretariat said the allegations against the Ministers were totally baseless and were intended only to weaken the party and its workers on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections. The CPI(M) had all along taken the stand that those involved in the scandal and related deaths should be brought to book and the party had nothing to hide in the matter, the statement said.

Kiliroor incidents

The CPI(M) leadership said that Kiliroor incidents had taken place during the UDF rule. The CPI(M) had, from the beginning, taken the position that the culprits must be brought before law and given exemplary punishment. Several leaders of the CPI(M), including the then Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Pinarayi Vijayan, P.K. Sreemathy and M.C. Josephine had visited the hospital where Shari, the victim, was being treated. In between, there arose the ‘VIP’ row which helped only to divert attention from the real culprits. The row was used to create confusion in the ranks of the CPI(M) as well.

Mr. Achuthanandan’s statement that the ‘VIPs’ involved in the Kiliroor case should be brought to book was not directed at anyone in the CPI(M). He himself had clarified this within and outside the Assembly. None of the agencies that investigated the case could also come to any such conclusion. Although the case was referred to the CBI, it too could not come up with any substantive findings. Mr. Achuthanandan himself had sought investigation by a team of senior officials. All this showed that the CPI(M) had nothing to hide in the matter, the CPI(M) secretariat said.
