Soumi Mondal moves up

New Delhi: India’s Soumi Mondal entered the second round of the World Junior table tennis championship’s main draw, while her compatriot Olympian Neha Aggarwal will lock horns with Manca Fajmut of Slovenia to qualify for the final-32 round in Madrid. Soumi, who topped her group standing in the qualifying round on Wednesday winning three successive matches, got a bye in the round of 64.

Soumi thrashed Chinese paddler Paula Avalos 3-0 in the third match of the qualifying round. Neha had won her first match, but lost her second match. But she recovered to stun Julia Wu of New Zealand 3-0 to book her berth in the main draw. — PTI
