BHUBANESWAR: Congress legislator from Koraput Assembly constituency Taraprasad Bahinipati was suspended from the State Assembly for a period of seven days on Thursday for unruly behaviour. Speaker Kishore Mohanty ordered suspension of Mr. Bahinipati for throwing a headphone at him and showing unruly behaviour during a discussion on the recent communal violence in Kandhamal district. The legislator hurled a headphone towards the Speaker’s podium to protest against the Speaker’s permission to Biju Janata Dal MLA Kalpataru Das to raise a point of order on the Kandhamal violence. The incident occurred when legislators of both the ruling parties and the opposition came inside the well of the House opposing each others remarks during the debate on the Kandhamal violence. The suspension of Mr. Bahinipati, however, was strongly resented by his party legislators. Even though the Speaker asked Mr. Bahinipati to leave the House, the Congress MLAs did not obey the instruction. He was surrounded by his party legislators when the Marshals came forward to take him out of the House. The Speaker had to adjourn the proceedings as pandemonium prevailed in the House over the incident. The Koraput MLA went out of the House when deputy leader of Congress Legislature Party Narasingha Mishra requested him to obey the Speaker’s ruling. Debate on KandhamalA debate on the Kandhamal issue was sought by the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators who were critical of the government for the alleged failure of the Crime Branch to arrest the killers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Lakshmanananda Saraswati. Among those who participated in the debate include the Government Chief Whip Bikram Keshari Arukha and Deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
