Thiruvananthapuram: The District Consultative Committee for Banking Development, which met here on Wednesday, has decided to streamline the disbursement of loans for Kudumbasree units and other self-help groups. Banks in the district disbursed loans worth Rs.1,343 crore in the priority sector up to September 30 this year, according to the report of the lead bank. This represents 39 per cent of the loan target. While the services sector accounted for loans worth Rs. 663 crore, the disbursement in the Agriculture sector was Rs. 624 crore and that in the small-scale sector Rs.56 crore. The report said one lakh no-frills savings accounts had been opened all over the district for distribution of wages under the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (NREGS). The meeting stressed the need to improve the loan disbursement under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) poverty alleviation programme. It also assessed the progress of various projects taken up by different departments with assistance from banks. The lead bank called for more effective revenue recovery. Reserve Bank assistant manager P. Raveendran released the potential-linked credit plan for the district for the year 2009- 2010.
