Maiden title for SWR women

BANGALORE: South Western Railway (SWR) women won their maiden State Association Cup basketball title defeating Sports Hostel Mysore 59-48 at the Mini stadium in Kolar on Thursday.

Nimisha (18) and Reshma (17) did the bulk of the scoring for the winner while Deepa Shankar’s valiant show with 31 points went in vain for the Mysore Hostel girls.

The results:

Men: For third place: KSP 56 (Sri Raksha 14, Ramakrishna 11) bt HASC 37 (Sachindra 24) (Ht: 31-20). Semifinal league: Vijaya Bank 48 (Sanjay Raj 15) bt HASC 44 (Sachindra 15) (Ht: 20-21); ASC 73 (Harish 24, Nixon 18) bt KSP 57 (Mahesh 30, Ramakrishna 13) (Ht: 40-33).

Women: Final: SWR 59 (Nimisha 18, Reshma 17) bt Sports Hostel (Mysore) 48 (Deepa Shankar 31, Sneha 10) (Ht: 30-22). For third place: Mounts Club 36 (Monica 10) bt JSC 32 (Anusha 12) (Ht: 16-20). Semifinal league: SWR 50 (Anu Mathew 11) bt Mounts Club 47 (Shikha 19) (Ht: 21-11); Sports Hostel (Mysore) 41 (Sneha Priya 15) bt JSC 24 (Ht: 23-12).

Christ College posts win

Christ College thanks to a goal each from John (17th) and Keshav (23rd) edged past Baldwin Methodist 2-1 in the inter-collegiate football tournament at the football stadium. Baldwin scored a late consolation goal through Santosh.

In the semifinals to be played on Friday, ASC Centre & College will take on RBANMS while Al Ameen ‘A’ will clash with St. Joseph PUC.

Royal HS posts win

Rotary High School defeated JSS High School by 107 runs in the KSCA U-16 inter-school cricket tournament at Dharwad on Thursday. At Hubli, Nirmala Thakkar School defeated St. Anthony’s School by seven wickets.

The scores: Rotary HS 186 in 27.3 overs (H. Ramachandra 97, U. Sheetal four for 42) bt JSS HS 79 in 14.2 overs (Murali Rajgopal four for 22, Vivek Savalagi three for 19).

St. Anthony’s School 173 for eight in 40 overs (Darshan Patil 48) bt Nimala Thakkar School 174 for 3 in 32.1 overs (L.J. Sagar 67).

Taekwondo championship

The Taekwondo Association of Karnataka will conduct the 9th State championship at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium, Basaveshwara Nagar on December 16 and 17. Nearly 1000 participants from 14 districts and 12 affiliated clubs will take part in the sub junior, junior and senior weight categories. For entry forms and further details contact: B.M. Rakesh to lead

Rakesh Singh of MEG will lead Karnataka in the Federation Cup handball championship to be held at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) from December 13 to 17.
