Corrections and Clarifications

  • A report “Restrictions put on Masood Azhar” (December 10, 2008, page 1) said (first paragraph) that Pakistan has confined Maulana Masood Azhar, the Jaish-e-Mohammed chief wanted by India, to his home in Bhawalpur in the south Punjab province. It is Bahawalpur.

  • The penultimate paragraph in a report “Status quo ordered on construction of mosque” (December 10, 2008) was “The SLP raised important questions of law: whether the Muslim Cultural Association could claim a right under Article 25 of the Construction (right to freedom of religion) ….” It should have been “Article 25 of the Constitution”.

  • The third paragraph of an article “Planning for inclusive development” (Op-Ed, December 9, 2008) began as “However, the other 23 per cent, constituting more than a billion people, has provided a market larger than most other economies of the world and attracted world investors and traders.” It should have been “more than a quarter billion people”.

  • It is George Bernard Shaw and not George Bernard Shah, as published in the sixth paragraph of a report “A pioneering Indian scientist remembered” (“Newscape” page, December 10, 2008).

  • The last paragraph of a Bangalore report “Talawar is new Mysore varsity Vice-Chancellor” (Karnataka, December 10, 2008, page 4) was “The University of Mysore has been without a vice-chancellor since October 2007 when the then Vice-Chancellor J. Shashidhara Prasad died.” It is an error that is regretted. The former VC J. Shashidhara Prasad is alive and well, which has been confirmed by his family and the University of Mysore.
