Letters to the Editor
This refers to the page 1 news item (Dec. 11) “Top police officials under fire for errors of judgment.” We are adept at putting the blame on someone. Are our police trained to act independently in anything? They are always under the control of the Chief Minister or the Home Minister. Most of the policemen are on duty for security of politicians and VIPs. As you sow so you reap. Our policemen never perform any crisis response drills or duties except to address press meets or attend review meetings. Why make them the scapegoat? We have only outdated methods of tackling crime and weaponry whereas criminals, terrorists and naxalites are well-versed in modern guerilla warfare and possess AK-47s. At least, now let us prepare ourselves and our policemen for crises, disasters and calamities. M.M. Kale, Kakinada
