Caucus against Lotteries Department: Isaac

Special Correspondent

T.M. Thomas Isaac

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said in the Assembly on Wednesday that a caucus was working against the Lotteries Department.

The Minister was replying to the general discussion on the Kerala State Lottery Agents and Sellers Welfare Fund Bill which seeks to provide for constitution of a fund for promoting the welfare of agents and sellers of State lotteries. Dr. Isaac said the government was treading carefully in lottery related cases before the courts in view of the operation of the caucus. The Minister demanded that the Centre should take the stand before the Supreme Court that the State governments had right to take action against lotteries contravening the provisions of the Central Lotteries Act. Dr. Isaac said the deficiencies in printing of lotteries would be rectified.
