THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft of a legislation to govern inland fisheries in the State. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the Kerala Inland Fisheries Bill would amalgamate provisions of existing legislations such as the Indian Fisheries Act and the Travancore-Cochin Fisheries Act. The Chief Minister said the Cabinet had also approved the proposal to award the consultancy for development of the Tangasseri habour in Kollam to Deloitte India Private Limited. An amount of Rs.65 lakh would be allocated from the Calamity Relief Fund for reconstruction of a sea wall and a road respectively at Arattupuzha and Thrikkunnapuzha. A solatium of Rs.3.5 lakh would be provided to the family of the seven persons who had been killed in a motor accident at Kanjikode in Palakkad district. An amount of Rs.1 lakh would be provided for the treatment of the child who was injured in the accident. Mr. Achuthanandan said Justin Mohan would be posted Project Director for implementation of the Kuttanad package. The project office would be at Monkompu. Jacob Thomas would be posted as Project Director of the Kerala Water Supply Project funded by the JBIC.
