Big win for Punjab and Baroda

KOLKATA: Punjab thrashed Assam by 586 runs to move into the semifinals of the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy under-22 cricket tournament, here on Tuesday.

The winner will take on Baroda, a comfortable 282-run victor over Uttar Pradesh.

Mumbai also entered the semifinals, defeating Railways by 21 runs, where it will meet Bengal.

The semifinals will be played from Friday.

The scores:

Mumbai 233 & 152 bt Railways 127 & 237 in 88 overs.

Baroda 297 & 224 bt U.P. 106 & 133 in 38.4 overs (Ajitesh K. Argal three for 60, Ikram Zambawala four for 49).

Punjab 342 & 544 for six decl. in 139.3 overs (Taruwar Kohli 196, Pankaj Saikia three for 83) bt Assam 129 & 171 in 60 overs (Mayank Sidhana 55, Gaurav Gambhir six for 60). — Special Correspondent
