BANGALORE: The second Asian Paralympic badminton championship for the physically challenged will get underway at the Karnataka Badminton Association Stadium here from Wednesday. The five- day event, which is being conducted by Badminton Sports Association and Paralympic Committee of India, has received about 150 entries from 18 countries, which includes Pakistan. The championship would have team events as well as open events for both standing and wheel-chair players and also for those who fall in dwarf sections. Though the scoring format remains the same, the physically challenged players, play half court and net height is marginally lower for those, who play in the wheel chairs. According to the organisers, India is poised for a big sweep of medals as it has 10 players, who enjoy international ranking and Parul D. Parmar from Gujarat, is World No.1 in the women’s singles. ASC, Vijaya Bank advanceASC and Vijaya Bank did well to beat the rains to cruise through to the semifinal league stage in the men’s section of the State Association Cup basketball quarterfinal fixtures at the Mini stadium in Kolar here on Tuesday. While ASC downed SAI (Dharwad) 56-26, favourite Vijaya Bank brushed aside Sports Hostel’s (Bangalore) challenge at 67-30. Wednesday and Thursday are reserved for the semifinal league matches in both the men and women’s sections. The results: Men (Quarterfinals): ASC 56 (Ravinder 10, Harish 10) bt SAI (Dharwad) 26 (Mayur Bhat 10) (Ht: 24-16); Vijaya Bank 67 (Deivakumar 11, Roshan 10) bt Sports Hostel (Bangalore) 30 (M.R.
