U.P. retains title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Holder Uttar Pradesh (428.15 points) staved off a stiff challenge from Maharashtra (428.15) and retained the boys’ team title in the 22nd National sub-junior gymnastics championship here on Tuesday.

Orissa claimed the bronze with a score of 345.75 points.

In the boys’ individual all-around competition, Uttar Pradesh tasted further success through Sourav Sharma who tallied 90.00 points. Maharashtra’s Jayendra Patil (88.95) was second slightly ahead of U.P.’s Vikas Bhatia (88.20).

The results:

Boys: Team event: 1. Uttar Pradesh (431.35 points), 2. Maharashtra (428.15), 3. Orissa (345.75).

Individual all-around: 1.Sourav Sharma (U.P.), 90.00, 2.Jayendra Patil (Mah), 88.95, 3. Vikas Bhatia (U.P.), 88.20. — Special Correspondent
