Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report “Pakistan launches operation against banned organisation” ( Dec. 9). The lone terrorist — captured in India after the Mumbai attack — who has named the mastermind, is no doubt a prize catch. The raid and the capture of militants are only a concrete expression of Pakistan’s response to intense international pressure. K.S. Thampi, Chennai The operation launched by Pakistan against the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba is a welcome move. But had it been really interested in curbing terrorism on its soil, Pakistan would have not taken so long to launch such an operation. Better late than never. S. Anantharaj Abraham, Chennai The news of the crackdown on the Lashkar is welcome but an air of scepticism lingers. We need to watch what happens beyond these arrests. Pakistan should use this opportunity to hand over Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon, and Masood Azar to India. One hopes the arrests are not a cosmetic move.Harisankar Kurup, Secunderabad
