Infam seeks cut in taxi, auto fares

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: The Indian Farmers Movement (Infam) has demanded immediate action by the government to reduce taxi and autorickshaw fares in view of the reduction in fuel prices.

At a meeting of Infam’s district committee, it was pointed out that since crude oil prices were coming down, fuel prices could be further reduced in the country.

“It is the government’s responsibility to pass on to common people the benefits of the decline in crude oil price. As a first step in that direction, the government should take necessary steps to lower taxi and auto fares,” leaders of Infam said.

Rubber price drops

Speakers at the meeting expressed concern over the decline in the price of rubber, which has been one of the few profitable crops for the State’s farmers.

They demanded that the government initiate procurement of rubber after fixing a floor price.

Infam’s district president James Kottoor and all-India general secretary Fr. Anthony Kozhuvanal spoke.
