Rs. 2.04 cr. sanctioned for electrification of 24 sub-plan villages, he says Officials told to issue caste certificates Kakinada: A large number of tribal people participated in a ‘Praja Sadassu’ organised at Pedamallapuram village in Sankhavaram mandal on Tuesday with the objective of solving the people’s problems to the extent possible on the spot. Presiding over the meeting, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said it is an exercise aimed at taking the administration to the doorstep of tribals who could not come to the district headquarters to ventilate their grievances. He admitted that there were several problems being faced by the tribal folks and said that he instructed the officials concerned to take quick action so that the living conditions in the tribal areas could be improved. Responding to pleas for declaration of some 50 villages in the constituency (Pratthipadu) as a Scheduled area, Mr. Dwivedi said the proposal was pending with the government while the district administration was doing its best to make their lives better drawing from the existing resources. He also said that a sum of Rs. 2.04 crore was sanctioned for electrification of 24 sub-plan villages by the end of February 2009. The Collector further ordered the officials to issue caste certificates which were pending for long, in 15 days and get necessary inquiries done by the revenue divisional officers in case of any complications. He asserted that efforts were being made to garner funds for improving the basic amenities the lack of which has made people’s lives miserable in these areas. More such meetings would be conducted to have a first hand account of the people’s problems, in addition to two similar outreach programmes held earlier at Korukonda (Burugupudi) and Rampachodavaram (Yellavaram), the Collector added. The district administration conducted medical and veterinary camps on the occasion and accepted petitions pertaining to various individual and community needs and some complaints as well. Pratthipadu MLA V. Subba Rao said the ‘Praja sadassu’ was a forum where people could ventilate their grievances and get them redressed at the habitation level. He hoped that the Collector would come up with such innovative ideas in future also. Joint Collector K. Sasidhar, ITDA project officer Yogita Rana, RDO K. Nataraj and mandal presidents V. Raja (Pratthipadu), Kumar Raja (Sankhavaram) and Tammaiah Babu (Yeleswaram) were among those present.
