‘Convene all-party meet on KSEZ’
Staff Reporter
Kakinada: BJP State executive member Y Malakondaiah appealed to the Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the situation arising from strictures passed by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) regarding Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ). He mentioned in a letter written to the Collector that the SEZ was detrimental to the interests of people, particularly farmers whose lands were allegedly usurped by the Government.
Even the SHRC took a serious view of human rights violations that reportedly occurred in the process of acquiring land for the KSEZ but things still seemed to be moving in favour of the businessmen. Mr. Malakondaiah stated that the district administration had misrepresented the facts to SHRC when it sought a status report and it was therefore imperative that the Collector visited the project areas to put the matter in proper perspective. Otherwise, gross injustice would be done to the people who were virtually bullied by the officials concerned and police.
