National u-25 chess from Dec. 16

CHENNAI: St. Joseph’s College of Engineering-National under-25 chess championship will be organised by Mount Chess Academy at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Old Mahabalipuram Road, from December 16 to 22.

The prize fund is Rs. 60,000. Each State Association and Special Unit affiliated to All India Chess Federation can field two entries.

The normal entry fee is Rs. 1,000 and the special entry fee is Rs. 3,000.

Easy for First Flight

First Flight Couriers defeated Reliance Capital by 155 runs in the South Madras Cricket Association tournament held here on Sunday.

The scores:

Club Mahendra 163 in 28.4 overs (M. Munuswamy 52) lost to Sasthas HM 166 for six in 27.3 overs (N. Girish 87 not out).

First Flight Couriers 248 for six in 30 overs (John Xavier 33, S. Kumar 75, K. Jagadish 43, S. Saravanan 49) bt Reliance Capital 93 for eight in 30 overs (K. Venkatesh 58).

Chess championships

The Chennai District Chess Association (CDCA) will conduct the Chennai District under-9, under-13 and senior (Open) rapid selection championships, for CDCA-registered players, on December 27 and 28 at Hall of Chess, Nehru Stadium, Chennai-3. Entries close on December 25.

Chess tournament

The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (South Zone) chess tournament will be held from December 10 to 12 at the Office of the Principal AG (Civil Audit), Teynampet.

S. Manuel Aaron, India’s first IM and Arjuna Awardee, will inaugurate the event.
