Law to grant quota for Arundhatiyars soon

CHENNAI: The government will soon enact a law to grant reservation in jobs and education for Arundhatiyars within the existing quota of reservation for the Scheduled Castes, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said here on Monday.

A Bill to this effect will be tabled in the Assembly soon, he said in response to a question.

Earlier, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy chaired a meeting of the Sub-Committee that went into the modalities of the implementation of special reservation for Arundhatiyars.

Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Pongalur Palanichamy, A. Tamilarasi, Deputy Speaker V.P. Duraisamy and officials took part in the meeting to decide on a road map.

Report submitted

The chairman of the committee, Mr. Ponmudy, later submitted a report to the Chief Minister.
