Central team leaves for flood-hit districts

CHENNAI: The Central team to inspect flood damage in the State on Monday held discussions with Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi and top government officials here.
The team, led by K. Skandan, Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry, and including nine members, listened to the presentations made by officials. Later, four members of the team led by Mr. Skandan left for Thanjavur.
They will hold discussions with the Collector and officials and visit crop damage and flood-damaged roads and bunds.
Spot assessment
On Wednesday, they will visit Tiruvarur district for an on-the-spot assessment.
The second team of five members, led by Deshpandey, Additional Advisor, Union Drinking Water Supply Department, left in the evening for Puducherry.
They will visit Cuddalore and Chidambaram on Tuesday and travel to Nagapattinam via Puthur, Sirkali, Vaitheeswarankoil and Mayiladuthurai.
Both the teams will be back by Thursday.
They are expected to meet the Chief Minister and hold a second round of meeting with the Chief Secretary before leaving for New Delhi.
