BSNL executives stage dharna

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Members of the United Forum of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) Executives’ Association conducted a daylong dharna and lunch-hour demonstration in front of the BSNL corporate office at Jayalakshmipuram here on Monday demanding repatriation of BSNL/MTNL executives to the Department of Telecommunication (DoT).

Threat

They also threatened to hold a rally on December 22 and launch an indefinite strike from December 23 in case their demands were not met.

Speaking to presspersons, president of the association Mukundan said that despite conducting organisational programmes of action to draw the attention of the managements of BSNL, MTNL and DoT to address and resolve the issue of repatriation of BSNL and MTNL executives to DoT, there was no positive response. Due to this the association was forced to intensify its agitation, he said. He said that after the formation of BSNL in October 2000, employees and executives of DoT were deputed to BSNL for a short period. Later, when the employees were given the option to choose between BSNL and DoT, with no other alternative, they opted for BSNL.

However, the Indian Telecom Officers, who were the top managerial cadre of DoT, had been allowed to enjoy the benefits of both BSNL and DoT without any accountability. In view of this, the association was now forcing BSNL to either absorb them or repatriate the existing BSNL and MTNL executives again to DoT, he said.

“We believe that the managements of BSNL, MTNL and DoT will understand the significance and seriousness of our demand of imminent repatriation to DoT and initiate meaningful dialogue to resolve this critical issue,” Mr. Mukukdan said.
