The world witnessed the ghastly gun battle between the terrorists and the NSG on 26-11-2008. 101 persons were killed and 287 persons were injured . This clearly proves how efficient and alert is our Intelligence and Home Department. It is a shame to the UPA government which has failed to provide security to the Indian citizens. President Ms. Pratibha Singh Patil should declare National Emergency forth with to save the innocent people of India and dismiss the UPA Government. The dastardly attack upon the Taj Hotel is a challenge to the Indian sovereignty. The UPA is a spineless Government which is, out of fear, compromising with the terrorists - sacrificing the precious lives of the Indians. The Indian people cannot excuse the bogus Government.
Kartik Chandra Rout, Berhampur Terror attacksThe recent terror attacks in Mumbai once again remind us how vulnerable we are. Despite the hue and cry both in India and outside, our politicians have not learnt anything and started to blame each other. They still parrot the same old statements which are not only hollow but are useless too. Perhaps our political leaders are waiting for nuclear or biological attack to act firmly. Deepak Gudla Cuttack Dowry problemIt is indeed tragic that the practice of dowry, which had originated to help the young girl to start her life afresh, should degenerate to this level, where it has become an instrument of exploitation. In fact today marriages have become business deals. Financial considerations are given more importance than anything else in a marriage. Perhaps the change in traditional values and life style is responsible for this. In the present society man’s position and prestige is judged not from his humanity and character but by his affluent standard of living. Therefore, parents of boys do not feel any embarrassment in openly demanding hefty dowry. It is astonished that the so-called educated, independent young men do not say anything when these bargains are being struck. It is high time that different Governments should come forward bringing in certain legislation to check this social evil Media can play a very crucial and positive role in creating awareness. The print media, Radio, Television, all should be used to educate the masses. Bandana Parida Cuttack Protect this placePuri has occupied the status of an important place of attraction in the international map of tourism. Many foreign tourists throng here for its serenity. But the recent behaviour of locals with the tourists is shocking. Puri is always alerted and security is beefed up here in the aftermath of every terrorist attack. Therefore, it is pertinent that the security blanket around the holy city should be beefed up . A coordinated strategy has to be adopted by various wings of the intelligence to make the place safe for ever. Bauri Bandhu Sahu Sarangajodi, Puri Fuel priceThe recent cut of fuel prices is welcome. Since the crude oil price in international market has dropped over a month now, the cut in fuel prices was over due. However, no politics should be attached to this state of the Union Government as fuel price in international market is not controlled by India and therefore no Government can claim any credit or draw wrath over the fuel price increase or decrease.
