Letters to the Editor
On seeing the blame game and accusations levelled against politicians in this last one week, I would like to ask ourselves — ordinary citizens — whether we are completely free of everything we accuse others of. Do we never pass the buck? Do we never tolerate violence at home? Do we always vote in the elections although it is our duty to do so? Do we never promote people despite their incompetence? Do we never discriminate against people on the basis of gender, caste or religion? Do we always stand up to petty corruption? Do we ever volunteer for national service? S. Kartikeyan, Longmont, Colorado How many of us abide by traffic rules, especially when there are no policemen around? How many of us don’t jump queues? How many of the educated people have ever voted? Almost every one of us is guilty of breaking some rule or law. How then can we expect our politicians to sprout wings? Arun Varma, Chennai How can we distinguish between the government and the people? Politicians are no different from us. We need to change our perceptions. Let us think of a solution instead of asking the government to take appropriate action.R.M. Abinayah, Chennai
