Central team arrives

CHENNAI: A central team led by K. Skandan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, arrived here to assess the damage in the flood-affected districts of State.

Talking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Mr Skandan said the team would hold a discussion with the government officials to collect details about the damage before visiting the flood areas.

Asked how long it would take the team to assess the situation, he said “everything would depend on tomorrow’s session with government officials.” He said there were eight officials in the team including K. Manoharan, Director in-charge, Department of Tobacco Development, R.M. Deshpande, Deputy Advisor, Department of Drinking Water, and Dheenanath, Deputy Director (Expenditure).
