Reduce petrol, diesel prices further: FEDCOT

Special Correspondent

Bring down price of LPG to provide relief to consumers

RAMANATHAPURAM: The Federation of Consumer Organisations-Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (FEDCOT) has urged the Central Government to take constructive steps to ensure the benefits of reduction in oil prices are passed on to the consumers.

In a statement, its chairman P. Duraisingam, said due to cascading effort, following the recent oil price rise, the prices of many commodities, food, vegetables and other items had been raised by the businessmen, traders and public transport service providers.

Now, the government had reduced the fuel prices to an extent. Though the consumers, who fill petrol and diesel to their vehicles, could be benefited directly, apprehensions were still persisting among them that whether they could get the indirect benefits or not. Hence, the government should take all possible efforts to make the traders, businessmen and others reduce the prices of various commodities and other services.

He added that though the consumers welcomed with half hearted the reduction in the price of petrol and diesel, it was not commensurate with prevailing international crude oil prices and the government should have at least restored the pre-hike prices in June this year. Further the government had not thought of reducing the prices of LPG which had become an inevitable part of the Indian household.

Hence, the FEDCOT demanded the government to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel further and also reduce the price of LPG immediately to provide relief to the consumers, who were reeling under the impact of inflation.
